Opinions about the jiu-jitsu initiation
On Thursday 31 March at the sports hall Intendant in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, an initiation to jiu jitsu took place for the sixth year of school La Flûte Enchantée, which was one of the winners of our digital challenge at the end of last year.
“Thanks to the Dewabon that we received as a prize for the digital challenge, we bought new basketball rings. We posted many sports activities on the app last year and so we were one of the winners”, looks Cédric back with satisfaction. “In my P.E. classes I use the playbooks from the Urban Youth Games. They offer a good structure and the content that is conveyed to the children is an added value.”

“It was the first time that I gave an initiation. I like to be an example for the children, so it was very nice to pass on my passion for jiu-jitsu to them. The basis of this sport are its values such as having confidence in yourself. You can use that in daily life”, says Ines, who dreams of becoming world champion in jiu-jitsu for adults.

“My task at UYG events is to welcome the schools in a fun way and to inform them about the event. It is always a challenge to create a good vibe. I introduce myself as Jim Nastik, which I think is the perfect icebreaker. Also, it is great to announce and mix different schools”, says Stefan, who is an actor by profession. “The initiations were always with one school, but the end result is the same as with the big events. The teachers and children go home with stars in their eyes.”

“From the age of 10, I started practising jiu-jitsu. It is cool that my classmates can discover this sport. I have also learnt a new technique. The most important values in jiu-jitsu are fair play and respect for the arbiter and the opponent.”

“I did not know Brazilian jiu-jitsu before this initiation. The defensive exercises were instructive. It was a nice introduction”, says Rafael who plays football in his leisure time. “Like Rafael, jiu-jitsu was new to me. I found dropping someone the most difficult”, says Nuria, who practices aikido.
